The Aalto Collection by Alvar Aalto made waves in 1937 when first presented at the Paris world exhibition. The mysterious form made a strong statement against industrial production failing to meet human needs. Today it is an icon of a design movement.

Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is recognized today as one of the masters of modern architecture and Scandinavian design. Inspired by man and nature, he believed that good design should be a part of everyday life. Alvar Aalto would never say how his glass objects should be used; he wanted the user to decide.

Alvar Aalto's first sketches for the vases were playfully called "Eskimo woman's leather trousers". Nature played a great role in Alvar Aalto's life and creativity. The undulating forms of the objects in the Aalto collection are like the Finnish landscape with its thousands of lakes. Glassblowers at the Iittala factory still meticulously handcraft the iconic fluid organic shapes.

The smallest of the Aalto vases, this vase is 3.75" tall and is 4.5" wide at the widest top dimension.

Design Alvar Aalto 1936. Iittala's motto is "against throwawayism", promoting durable, useful and universal objects while producing premium Scandinavian design.

Made of mouth-blown glass. Please hand wash. Made in Finland.
