The Vista Alegre StoryBorn in a period of revolutions, Vista Alegre is a dream come true of a typical modern 19th century man, José Ferreira Pinto Basto, who began the factory in 1815. He chose an area near the Aveiro estuary, in a region rich in the essential manufacturing elements of porcelain and glass. King John VI bestowed the factory its operating patent in 1824. Just five years later, Vista Alegre was granted the title of Royal Factory to honor its art and industrial success. The factory concentrated on perfecting porcelain, reaching a golden period that culminated late in the 19th century. Vista Alegre remains a leader in manufacturing and development of artistic talent. Today, Vista Alegre Atlantic Group is the sixth largest tableware manufacturing group in the world. It remains the home of innovative porcelain techniques. |
